40 years ago, the Aral Sea was one of the largest seas of the world. For generations this gigantic freshwater reserve has provided fish for millions of people. But for more than half a century, authorities started to put into reality a mastodon of a vision. The water from the Aral Sea could transform the never-ending desert steppe into blooming fields of cotton. Very soon, it became clear, that the project would have serious consequences for the sea and the surrounding society. But at that time, the enthusiasm for the conquest of nature had overwhelmed all logic.

The Hottest State (2006)

Apesar de tudo, este The Hottest State (2006) não deixa de ser um bom esforço de Ethan Hawke. Catalina Sandino Moreno está (as always) excepcionalmente bem, um tanto ao quanto estranhamente gostei da participação da Laura Linney e a soundtrack também tem algumas músicas que me agradaram.

Genial, genial, mil vezes genial!

Nem tenho palavras para descrever o que senti ao ver esta comédia romântica que Emir Kusturica filmou nas margens do Danúbio...

Tudo o que sei é que descobri mais um dos filmes da minha vida.

E fica desde já a promessa de, muito em breve, fazer um post exclusivamente dedicado à Branka Katic.

Pouco a pouco, lá vou recuperando o tempo perdido e vendo os filmes de Alfred Hitchcock. O próximo irá ser o Vertigo (1958). Talvez no próximo fim-de-semana :)

The End Of The Affair (1999)

.

Ralph Fiennes é um dos meus actores favoritos, Neil Jordan ainda estava fresquinho na memória devido a Breakfast On Pluto (2005) e Julianne Moore, apesar de não estar na primeira linha das minhas preferidas, sempre esteve muito bem cotada. Fazia, portanto, sentido ver The End Of The Affair. E dei por muito bem empregue o meu tempo.

Reign Over Me (2007)

É bom ver regressar Mike Binder aos grandes filmes. Para dizer a verdade, Mike Binder até podia nem fazer mais nenhum filme de jeito na vida que, para mim, depois de escrever e realizar o inesquecível The Upside Of Anger (2005), ia ser sempre especial.

Man About Town (2006) foi um tiro na água mas agora ei-lo de volta com este excelente Reign Over Me. Não chega ao nível de The Upside Of Anger (duvido que volte a chegar lá!) mas lança novamente a fasquia de qualidade bem lá para cima.

Um dos aspectos que mais aprecio nos filmes de Binder são os diálogos. Ele tem mesmo jeito para retratar as relacções entre as pessoas, como falam entre si, o que sentem. Há um grande cuidado nesse particular. Muita qualidade, mesmo. Binder dá também muita atenção à fotografia e às escolhas musicais. Isso agrada-me igualmente imenso. Reign Over Me tem isso tudo e muito mais.

Don Cheadle e Adam Sandler estão muitíssimo bem e é sempre um prazer ver a Jada Pinkett Smith.

Certamente, mais um para a lista final dos filmes que mais gostei de ver em 2007 ;)

Talk Radio (1988)

In my opinion, um dos melhores filmes de Oliver Stone e uma interpretação absolutamente fabulosa de Eric Bogosian.

Cashback (2006)

.Faltou-lhe um bocadinho assim para se tornar num filme excelente. Mas não deixa de ser muito, muito bom. Originalidade, humor, reflexões interessantes e tudo com uma simplicidade desarmante. Sério candidato à lista final dos melhores filmes visionados em 2007. Não percam Cashback (2006)!
